This is exactly the kind of job that I want to run on the Kessler & Northern District branches on the CR&E, so having the opportunity to run the job today gave me a real good idea of how it would work. Although the coal on Michael's layout, set in 1970, was Anthracite with plenty of single carload moves from the mines, some of the experience today would be helpful for the operation of my early 1990's bituminous raw coal movements in larger blocks.
Tonight, after returning home, I decided to post some photos of a few loadouts on NS's former Interstate, former N&W Clinch Valley line, and former Southern St. Charles Branch. Some of these loaders, which are truck-dump operations, will be used as reference for mines on the CR&E/K&N District.

here was the very simple Kelly Siding loader. NS loads trains up the branch
and brings cuts of cars down here to Kelly Siding due to space restrictions at

Not a loader, but the inspiration for the K&N/NF&G crossing at Raders
Jct., WV on the CR&E. This is the former VGN/C&O crossing at Pemberton, WV.
Note the old semaphore signal at the diamond. Shifter is coming from East Gulf, WV,
and will pick up more loads here at Pemberton before returning to Quinnimont on the C&O.
